The Guide Cottage has recently undergone a revamp, including a fresh lick of paint, toughened double-glazed windows, a new shower, and beautiful rustic furnishings! A big thanks to all involved with your efforts and time-giving.

Open Day

Many visitors and friends sat out in the garden to admire the spectacular Peak District views in glorious sunshine at the Open Day held on Saturday 1st June 2013.  The cottage was open for all to see the recent improvements and refurbishment, along with the chance to enjoy delicious bacon butties, homemade soup and scones.  There was also a raffle with a multitude of prizes.  Thank you to all those who came along and if you missed out and would like to take a look round at some point - get in touch to arrange a time to visit.

Wood burning stove installed

Thanks to the generosity of Dunsley Heat a new wood burning stove has been installed in a newly created inglenook fireplace in the lounge.  Dunsley Heat donated the stove to the cottage which replaces the previous electric fire.  As you can see this new addition makes the cottage even more welcoming, particularly in the winter months.  There is also a new lounge carpet which completes the living area makeover.

Mount Baden Powell Challenge

Margaret Shaw, longstanding Cottage Management Committee member and legendary Guider from Dartmouth Division, recently climbed Mount Baden Powell, California, USA and through sponsorship split between St John's Church, Golcar and the cottage, has raised a magnificent £800 towards the new woodburner for the cottage lounge.
Thank you very much Margaret and well done on your amazing acheivement.

The fundraising quiz organised by Dorothy Bottom raised a magnificent £118 towards the running costs of the cottage.  Thank you to all those who bought a quiz and tested their knowledge of breeds of dogs!  There were several highest scoring sheets submitted.  Congratulations to the winner with the most correct answers, picked out of a hat - Jean Hall, from Wakefield, who will be receiving a £10 shoppping voucher.
